Interpretation Commentary Series
May 14, 2008I have been slowly building my library of books and Bible commentaries.
The series I am currently in the midst of buying is the Interpretation: A Bible Commentary for Teaching and Preaching series.
I already have:
Ecclesiastes - William P. Brown
First and Second Peter, James, and Jude - Pheme Perkins
Philippians - Fred Craddock
Galatians - Charles B. Cousar
Romans - Paul J. Achtemeier
Ephesians, Colossians, and Philemon - Ralph P. Martin
This series has been great and I would recommend it to Bible enthusiasts both new and veteran. It is readable while having an intellectual integrity.

I wish people would understand that… Bible + Reasonable Intelligence + Holy Spirit + Personal Faith = Wisdom
I occasionally turn to commentaries in the Bibles I study, but only briefly. The Bible teaches itself on every page, as I say in my current blog post.
I think it’s because of the unconscious but very pervasive spiritual individualism of most Christians, and the non-availability of spiritual elders, or perhaps the unwillingness to trust them where they do exist, that leads people into bookfulness, when only One Book is needful, the Word of God. How? See my equation in paragraph 1.
