Breakout Session 3 - Pop Goes The Church
Tim Stevens - Granger Community Church
Reality #1 - Most churches aren’t impacting their communities.
Reality #2 - Spiritual interest is growing in our culture.
-Use pop culture to package a topic and attract a crowd
-Use pop culture to get people thinking or laughing
-Provide a mew interpretation for a popular cultural element
-Use pop culture elements to encourage the people who are making the ministry happen

Breakout Session 2 - Snakes and Doves
Mark Batterson - National Community Church
Matthew 10.16 - ”Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.”
“Church is a tag team sport. The people tag us when they come in and we do our thing. We tag them when they go out and they do their thing.”
“A huge dream will keep you on your knees before God.”
“There’s a fine line between THY KINGDOM COME and MY KINGDOM COME.”
On websites, print, etc. - “Minds recognize shape first, color second, and content third.”
“Everything says something about everything.”
“There are ways of doing church that no one has thought of yet.”

Breakout Session 1 - A Biblical Model For Worship and the Arts
Ross Parsley - New Life Church
BAD WORSHIP MINISTRY PYRAMID
Biblical Principles
Ministry Philosophy
Organizational Structure
Musical Style
Personality
Tradition
Skill
We must flip this pyramid on its head so the the base of out worship ministries will be Biblical principles and not everything else. “Can we have a SANITIZED worship experience in the experienced in the presence of God?” Isaiah 6

Have you ever been in a time of worship and the speaker/preacher starts to pray or get really emotional?
What happens?
The super soft guitar strum.
It’s hard for me not to laugh aloud at that point (I’m a sinner). Why…oh why?

Well, you’ll all be happy to know that I slept much better last night.
Here was my method…I turned the air conditioning to be as cold as possible. Then I bundled up in the covers and prayed that I would freeze my roommates so that they couldn’t sleep (or enter into a coma-state myself).
It worked!
Check back today for more on the WCAC. Breakout sessions today.

WCAC Day 1 - Part 4
Things have been going well! Thosew are pics from seeing Robbie Seay Band lead us in worship. It was my favorite part of the day so far, and if you haven’t heard them yet, check them out.
We have heard from Nancy Beach (Willow Creek), Gilles Ste-Croix (Cirque du Soleil), and Brian McLaren (Author).
Beach talked about Willow’s new plan on a focus of discipleship (pleasing)
Ste-Croix talked about the brilliance of Cirque and how they go about the creative process
McLaren talked about the social issues of this world and how they are a part of the gospel
So far it’s been a good conference.
Let me know if you have any questions about any of this.

WCAC Day 1 - Part 2
There are three stereotypical worship leaders I have observed at this conference thus far:
(1) Contemporary - Young, tall, goatee, Bono-ish sunglasses (even worn indoors), American Eagle/Gap garb, too sexy for their own good.
(2) Blended - Middle-aged, not as tall, full beard, well kept hair (complete with the scent of hairspray), tucked in polo shirt into dress pants, lame jokes.
(3) Traditional - Aged, short, no facial hair (shaves twice a day), comb over hairdo, full suit (from 1987), sage (this is the guy I want to ask about authentic worship!)
MORE TO COME!
